Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 (Pre-2020, HSL Version)

With the launch of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 by The Chinese Room and Paradox, I'd like to share some lighting work from an earlier version of the game while it was still being developed by Hardsuit Labs. A massive congratulations to The Chinese Room in particular for delivering the game - It looks stunning, and I'm very eager to try their take on it!

We began development of our version of Bloodlines 2 in 2016, using UE4. We set out to make a first-person RPG based in a supernatural version of Seattle, pulling from film references like Chinatown, Nightcrawler, Blade Runner, and other neo noir classics. My responsibilities on this title shifted during the course of our production - starting off as an environment artist, before shifting over to lighting. I handled a lot of the lighting for "spoke" missions off of our semi-open world hub, as well as story-critical locations, such as the various faction headquarters and the player's haven. I also drove a lot of the lighting for our dialogue and cinematic vignettes. The experience of collaborating with a really talented group of designers, writers, and other artists on a title that felt really unique is something I loved and I greatly appreciated being able to be a part of it, despite not being able to take it to release.
